As 2011 is winding down, we are refusing to let up. Lights Down Low is back with another top tier lineup that will make the rest green with envy. Thank you for the continued support this past year and enabling LDL to get bigger and bring out amazing acts such as these. LDL is known around the world as one of the best parties not only SF, but the US has to offer and it's due to your support. YOU are Lights Down Low and we love you for it.
This November we are hosting the Hot N Heavy Recordings 2 year anniversary party. These guys are on the forefront of Bay Area Bass music and constantly putting out the best music around. Frontman Justin Carr, AKA Commodore 69 and Co-operator Michael Harms are the genius' behind it and we are happy to have the crew team up with LDL for this special night.
Headlining this extravaganza of rad is FaltyDL, a man who creates music that's as fun as it is complex. Hailing from NYC, FaltyDL draws from a vast range of influences from Miles Davis to Squarepusher and brings a fresh perspective to the ever expanding genre of 'bass' music. The man recently came off a major tour with RADIOHEAD, playing alongside Four Tet and Pearson Sound! Also headlining, we have newly imported Pittsburgh native, Kastle. Having just made SF his new home, Kastle immediately made some waves and perked some prominent SF ears with his mind-blowing set at The Do-Over SF. We are happy to bring his same energy to the LDL stage. The Hot N Heavy heads Commodore 69 and Sam Supa, are going to be getting the night geared up by throwing down some solid jams together for what is guaranteed to be nothing but the best time.

In support of his latest release "So You' OUT NOW on Silverback Records, Kastle graces us with this wonderful 30 min mix full of his signature Future Bass jams and a few tunes from our label. We love this mix and Kastle, so help us spread the word and enjoy this free mix.
Kastle - San Francisco, CA. The popularity of bass-heavy dance music is spreading like wildfire across the globe, with many producers crafting their own styles of dubstep, grime and garage. In the humble city of Pittsburgh, PA DJ/producer Kastle has cultivated his own style of bass-heavy beats with a soulful twist reminiscent of classic Chicago house.
We are delighted to introduce Mako from Leeds, Britain UK. He has a really unique style of music encompassing elements of Garage, Techno, Electro, Ambient and House. Check out these FREE DOWNLOADS from him and help us spread the word.
Wachs Lyrical and Tanka share the billing on this, the latest release for Hot N Heavy. Wachs Lyrical's "What You Say" is a dark and brooding slice of future jack, packed with swinging 808s and deep bass stabs, with moments of calming organ chords, combing the melodic euphoria of Jacques Green with the bleak, isolating soundscapes of Jam City. Tanka's "Amelie" is much in the same vein, a Detroit-influenced stepping techno which combines stuttering R&B samples with twisting 303s. An impressive release, and one that will no doubt go down well with fans of the retro-futuristic house of Night Slugs and their contemporaries.
For the flip we're proud to introduce Tanka from Winchester UK, he brings us 'Amelie' which saunters along a Future Bass / Garage vibe with pounding kicks, sultry vocal edits and hints of 303 acid. Whether you are warming up the club or at peak hour this one is sure to make the ladies dance.
We asked Tanka a 6 pack of questions to get to know him better and this is what he has to say.

The first time I heard Mak & Pasteman's 'Mode' I was instantly drawn to their sound. It's all of my favorite elements in dance music put together tastefully and masterfully. 'What it Do' and 'Leave With U' have been receiving support from the likes of Roska, N-Type, Kastle, Distal and Rico Tubbs to name a few, so you're in for a treat.
Mak & Pasteman grew up on a diet of electronica, hip hop, breaks, garage, house and techno, having an appreciation of both the old and new in bass music. Their style is best described as a cocktail of these influences with their multi genre style fusing new and old sounds with modern production techniques and heavy sub bass.Mak’s a resident at at Metropolis, Reclaim the Dancefloor, Ibiza Rocks and Wax On, Pasteman has also resided at Metropolis, Bigger Than Barry and The Bash Out and hosts a weekly radio show every Thursday from 10pm to 12am (2-4pm PST) on www.Rood.fm alongside Descry.
With releases forthcoming on Sounds Of Sumo, Second To None, DiaMind, Wicked Bass, No Stranger To Danger and Ministry of Sound, Mak & Pasteman are interesting a diverse range of industry heads.
We asked them a 6-Pack of questions to get to know them a little better and here's what they had to say.
1. Q. Where were you born?
A. Pasteman - Peterborough
A. Mak - Huddersfield
2. Q. When and where did you first fall in love with electronic dance music?
A. Mak - 13 years old when i ambient music by Jose Padilla and Aphex Twin and a cassette of dj dag from the ioln warehouse in Germany, quickly moved onto jungle and hardcore.
A. Pasteman - Loose Ends - Hanging on a string. First tune i ever played out.
From then it just grew. Perhaps the second tune i really remember from way way back is 808 state.
3. Q. What other kinds of music do you listen to?
A. Pasteman - It would be easier to list what i don't. I try not to listen to too much electronic music when i'm not preparing for sets or radio, i love soul, rhythm and blues, hip hop, folk... music is very emotive so i listen to what matches my mood.
A. Mak - Lots of dub roots and modern dub, jazz funk blues soul etc, 80s n indie
4. Q. The electronic music community has become more tight knit on a global scale in recent years, what is your take on it?
A. Pasteman - I think when your close to the root and involved in the scene you see things differently. As tight knit as certain label communities and rosters are i feel it is all relative, i have been lucky enough to work with some great labels and hot n heavy is definitely one of them, it's a nice feeling to feel part of a label and know the network and have contact with your A&R and mastering engineer, maybe were being tight knit but i'm certainly not complaining!
A. Mak - Do what you feel, dont let the rules other people have apply to you
5. Q. Which is your favorite comedy Monty Python or The Office?
A. Pasteman - Office All Day.
A. Mak - Monty Python
6. Q. Shout Outs?
A. Pasteman - Massive shout to my girl Dorrie for all her continued support! Descry my host for being a general badman,Tanka, Herobot, Wachs Lyrical, Admin, Soularize, Fish, Majora, Too many to mention but you lot are what drive me! Big up!
A. Mak - Big Ups to Wilf , Mark and Dan from Metropolis , Jorden and Griff from Ibiza Rocks n Charlie from Amnesia.
We found these tracks for FREE on Soundcloud. All these tunes are hot and if you like them DOWNLOAD them quickly before they go away, maybe forever.

9. Boddika - With electronic music becoming more polished and quantized, Boddika’s arrival has shaken the scene to its very core, slamming down with a raw take on things that’s making all journalists scramble for the right genre tag. Is it electro? Techno? Old? New? Harking the expansive sounds of Luke Vibert, the analogue programming of Juan Atkins early work, and the rawness of the Drexciya/Dopplereffekt family, Boddika is the newest project of Al Green, 1/2 of the boundary-pushing duo that’s re-written the rules completely, Instra:mental. Takedown Skit by Boddika

We would like to take a moment to introduce you all to our friend Liam Wachs aka Wachs Lyrical. We asked him a '6-Pack' of questions so you can get to know him on a more personal level and this is what he had to say.
1. Q. Where were you born?
A. This may come as a bit of a surprise to anyone thats met me and heard my very British accent, but I was actually born in Los Angeles before my parents moved to the UK when I was 7 months old.
2. Q. When did you first get into electronic dance music?
A. I first got into electronic music when I was 16 on a holiday in Scotland. My friend and now musical partner in my House alias (Aartekt) John Williamson played me Fonzerelli - Moonlight Party. That song defined what was an amazing summer for me and started my love of EDM.
3. Q. What other types of music influence your production style?
A. I don't really know where I would point that finger, but I can tell you that when I am listening to music on my ipod or at home, it is generally quite funky, folk and blues based. Lately a lot of Steeley Dan, Quincy Jones and Nathan Reich.
4. Q. What is your favorite color of m&m?
A. Blue for sure. I don't really know why the other ones are there to be honest...
5. Q. If you were stranded on a deserted Island, what musical instrument would you want to have with you?
A. I would definitely have a piano with me. I think the piano has the largest possible range of emotion that can be pulled out of it, so it would never really get old.
6. Q. Any shout outs?
A. As always, gotta give a shout out to Akilles who kills it each and every. Everyone over at Electric Sound Stage Radio. Finally giving a shout out to the rents who imbued me with the musical obsession I have today.
Yoseph creates Original G - Funk inspired Bass Music and hails from Sebastopol California. We first heard his release 'Converse' on Savory Audio about a year and a half ago and were immediately drawn to his eclectic style and composition. We asked him a '6-pack' of questions to get to know him a little better and this is what he had to say.
1. Where were you born?
Santa Rosa. It's a place.
2. What was your first electronic dance music experience?
I had friends that were really into the rave scene in the late 90's (I was a highschool freshman in 1997), but I wasn't ever really very much a part of that. I was really into squarepusher and aphex twin and plaid and telefon tel aviv and things like that.
3. What other music besides dance music influences your production style?
80's electro and 90's hiphop. Nine Inch Nails. Warren G, and Slayer.
4. At the Slurpee Machine what would you choose? 1. Coke, 2. Pina Colada, or 3. Cherry
I would definitely choose all three for the suicide combination creation.
5. How do you like your eggs and when?
I like them over medium and I like them served by a fine woman wearing an apron and heels, and nothing else. Just any old time.
For this release we have four solid tracks to get your a$$ shakin.
With 'Contact Hi' and 'Jerkslump' he hits us with some crazy 140/70 bpm West Coast sizzurp flavors. 'Straight Up' is on dirty casino tip with lots of smoke, crunch and heavy leads, while 'Bootsy' is on a 110 bpm zombie funk vibe that will bring the dead to life.
So without further ado we are proud to present the 'Contact Hi' EP
With his last three releases charting on Beatport via Play Me Too and Synth City Records, Obsidian is making waves!
With each new release we started asking our producers a 6 Pack of questions for you to get more acquainted with them. This month we are proud to feature Joey "Obsidian" Jensen.
1. Where were you born? I was born in Denmark, Europe more specifically Copenhagen. I moved to California with my parents and younger sister at the age of 15. Been groovin here in sunny California ever since.
2. What was your first electronic dance music experience? My first experience with Electronic music was in 1992. We had a school project about music. All the other kids chose traditional music and I wanted to think outside the box. I found a group of electronic music producers that made techno/trance by the name of "Antiloop". Their CD quickly became one of my favorite CD's and since then my hunger for new and exciting electronic music has never stopped. I still have that CD to this day sitting at my desk.
3. What other music besides dubstep influences your style? Drum & Bass and Trance have had a huge influence on my style. From growing up with the epic melodies in Trance to getting a refined taste for technical basslines in Drum & Bass, I love it all. Although lately i've been bumpin some good old 80-90's Hip Hop. It just sets the mood and makes everything feel like an episode of fresh prince.
4. What are your hobbies other than music? I can't say that I have any huge hobbies other than music although recently i went hiking in Yosemite National Park. Trying new things is definitely my thing, whether its food or new and exciting places in the world. For the most part i spend my time working on music. I usually spend my time off with family and friends.
5. What's on the horizon for Obsidian? I recently got together with Vital Management, I'm going to be getting a lot more gigs this year thanks to them. I also got my banging release "Shine" with Meliss FX on Hot N Heavy. Over the course of the next month or so I have a few remixes I am doing as well as some top notch Obsidian originals. I have another release coming out next month on Synth City so be sure to keep your eyes out for it. Let's just say the way things are going; this year will be a fantastic year.
6. Any shout outs? First and foremost I want to thank Meliss FX, without her amazing talent this release would have never happened. Second I want to thank Hot N Heavy for giving Meliss FX and myself a chance to release this on your label. I also want to thank J.Rabbit and Matt from Tremourz, Terravita and Hot Pink Delorean for believing in me since the beginning, you guys rock! I would also like to thank Reid Speed and Alex Rosson for all of their support. They are some of the best people I know. I want to thank my agent Veronica for always working hard for me and getting me awesome gigs. Lastly I want to thank my mom, dad and sister because without them I wouldn't be where I am today.

We had a chance to catch up with our friend Star Eyes while she was staying in San Francisco and check out a few of her dj sets which included her latest White Gloves EP on Trouble & Bass. These tunes on here are definitely Hot N Heavy approved and will supply maximum dancefloor movement.
STAR EYES — WHITE GLOVES EP
Trouble & Bass resident bad girl Star Eyes unleashes three heavy-hitting original tracks that prove she’s never lost her hardcore. Following 2009’s haunted house-themed Disappear EP and a crop of remixes for the likes of Creep, Hussle Club, and Riviera, the White Gloves EP finds Star Eyes’ filtering her obsession with old-skool rave, jungle music, and partying all night in the darkest of warehouses through the lens of modern heavy bass, house, and grime. “White Gloves” is pure peak-time madness, with classic breakbeat chops falling down a rabbit hole and emerging into a cavern of ruffneck bass punctuated by hands-in-the-air piano stabs and dangerous airhorns. The dark and crispy roller “What Do You Mean” pairs skittering UK funky-style percussion with a growling low-end that channels Ed Rush & Optical. Rounding out the EP is “Ride or Die,” a haunting drive through grime house territory, shot through with lasers, demanding snares, and Star Eyes’ own hardcore-inspired vocals. One EP that will definitely have you calling for the rewind!
