Levingtquatre - Polka Dots (FREE DOWNLOAD)

Netherlands based producer Levingtquatre has been pursuing a notably liberal path over the last year, embracing a selection of genres and influences to create a warming soundtrack that suits both cosy nights in and late nights out.

Atmosphere and ambiance are at the forefront of Levingtquatre’s music, combining emotional synths with grainy textures wrapped around a diverse set of foundations that differ from track to track, be it garage, leftfield, nu soul or more often than not, a combination of all three.

The self released ‘Leisure EP’ served as an introduction to the world, featuring on a handful of renowned blogs, and as intended this paved the way for more material to follow. This came in the form of a remix EP, and a free release entitled the ‘All Talk EP’ on Immersed Audio’s IA Records, quickly gaining the support of many of their contacts.

Definitely one to keep under the radar, with new music being made as we speak we can look forward to a galvanizing and diverse year ahead. - Mike Hindle [Immersed Audio]

Hot N Heavy's 3rd Birthday Bash - 11/29/2012

Los Angeles based DJ/Producer Mike G has been blowing up the underground club music community as of late with his signature, heavy bass sound and Jersey club styles. Get to know!

Druid Cloak (Symbols, Hot N Heavy, Columbus, OH)

Quote:

"The elusive newcomer known only as Druid Cloak is set to release his debut record, The Grove EP, via Kastle Kastle's burgeoning Symbols label on October 9. Although he may be a mystery to most, the American artist has already garnered support from heavy hitters in the international bass scene—names such as Bambounou, Sepalcure, and Cedaa, among others. And for good reason, too; Druid Cloak's sound is crisp, varied, vibey, and as fantastical as his moniker. As he puts it, the producer makes "what the earth tells [him to make]," a method which he displays a command over on EP cut "Blessing of the Grove." Here, the futursitc sounds feel both organic and otherworldly as the track flows from a synth-heavy, half-time groove into a more bass-heavy, vocal-driven drop." - written by Anthony Princi XLR8R

BareSkin - Infinite Reflections HNH029

BareSkin - Infinite Reflections
Released November 29th 2012

18 year old producer / dj from Winchester, UK, Josh Thompson aka BareSkin has graced us with two slices of deep tech house influenced bass music.  Recently signed to Hypercolour and Losing Suki and playing alongside UK heavyweights Groove Armada, Scuba, Jackmaster, Blawan and Maya Jane Coles, Josh is turning the heads of his peers and the industry alike.

We asked Josh a few questions for our friends and fans and to get to know him better and this is what he has to say:

HNH Q 1. Where were you born?

A. High Wycombe

HNH Q 2. What was the very first vinyl record you bought and from where?

A. Street Halo from HMV on Oxford Street

HNH Q 3. What would be your ultimate dream gig?

A. hmm thats a hard one, not really sure... i'd like to see pink floyd in their prime quite a lot

HNH Q 4. Do you have a routine for making music?

A. i dunno, not really i dont think, i mean theres some things i do same every time but thats just coz its the only way it can be done so i wouldn't really call that a routine. I just kinda play around and see what happens

HNH Q 5. What is your favorite musical instrument and why?

A. haha this is another hard one, i like lots of different instruments equally for lots of different reasons, however i would probably say guitars and synthesizers are the coolest ones ;)

HNH Q 6. Any shout outs, upcoming releases, tour dates?

A. I'll try give another shout out to TOM WICKENS coz the last interview i did got edited and that taken out it seems haha, as for dates I've got quite a busy november/december it seems so keep an eye out!

-The title track 'Infinite Reflections' has a heavy 4 on the floor feel to it and is laced with sultry vocal edits, dreamy atmospherics and synths backed by a deep and driving bassline.

-As the second track's name 'Inertia' implies a state of inactivity, it's really quite the opposite here. It starts off with a 4 on the floor kick then moves into strange and eerie atmospherics, giving rise to haunted synths that climb into mysterious harmonized vocal effects.

MAKO - Tropicality EP HNHEP028

MAKO - Tropicality EP HNHEP028
Released November 5th 2012
http://www.junodownload.com/products/tropicality/2065303-02

UK based DJ and producer MAKO draws you in with his soulful sound. Growing up in Bath before living in Manchester, Leeds and Edinburgh all these cities have influenced his sound since he began DJing at the age of 15.

A seasoned DJ, MAKO has played clubs and free parties across the UK.
His versatile productions range across numerous genres yet always maintain a link to bass-heavy sound system culture. On discovering large bass-bins at a young age he has been drawn to all forms of bass music yet his productions don't focus on pure weight, maintaining a melodic, textured and atmospheric edge.

We asked Alex our '6-Pack' of questions to get to know him a bit better, this is what he has to say:

Q 1. Where were you born?

A.     London

Q 2. What got you into making electronic music?

A. Discovered Jungle around the time I started high school and got more and more interested in dance music. I got a pair of decks when I was 15 and after a while listening to endless bad records when shopping I thought I could make a better attempt than some so I gave it a go! Played around with a Roland 404 for a while without much success but finally got a copy of Logic which really got me addicted.

Q 3. What other types of music influence your production style?

A. The whole bag, I find myself listening to all kinds of stuff. I'd say I spend most time listening to dub/reggae and hip hop which have certainly influenced me. I think current music influences me as much as music from the past. You listen to different things for different reasons, if you want to relax you might put on some jazz or soul but friday night will probably be Bass music. What comes through in my music depends on my mood and what I've been listening to that day.

Q 4. Drop The Dead Donkey or The Office?

A. Tough call but narrowly edged by the Donkey.

Q 5. What is your favourite musical instrument and why?

A. The guitar's got to be up there, it's just such a versatile and expressive instrument. I wish I wasn't too lazy to learn to play it properly.

Q 6. Any shout outs?

A. Aye aye! Liam "Wachs Lyrical" for putting me in touch with you guys, Alex "DFRNT" who runs echodub and Andrew "Tactus" from ABAGA Records. Thanks for helping get my music out there! All Manchester/Edinburgh/Leeds/London/Bath crew too of course.

The Tropicality EP is a collection of tracks which are equally as at home in the dance as they are in the home. The beautifully crafted synths intermingle with driving and original drum patterns and weighty b-lines to rock the party right. Passing from 2 step to space boogie this EP demonstrates MAKO's versatility in the bass music arena.

Early support from the likes of; Christian Martin, ill Gates, Krueger and Tomb Crew.

Also included on the Tropicality EP are remixes from the UK's ALLMOSTT,  the Bay Area's Shouts! and Huffaker Park .

OUT NOW and currently tearing up the Bass Charts at Juno Download, Here's what they have to say when they reviewed the release.

"Mako is the latest name to arrive on the Hot N Heavy imprint, bringing his own brand of intricate bass music. The sparse title track focuses in on weighty 2-step kicks, wrapping all manner of subtle melodic riffs and vocals around its complex percussion. "Hurt Me" is more explicitly UFK, rolling forward on a rhythmic flex of funky snares, reverb heavy vocals and filtered synths, while "Good FiRday" shows the producer to have a knack for crafting boogie infused hip-hop beats, combining neon saturated 8-bit melodies with weighty organic beatwork. A hefty remix package is also offered; Almostt turns Tropicality" into a moodier, snappier cut, "Shouts" swathes the track in rippling dub effects while, Huffaker Park transforms "Hurt Me" into a precise piece of swung 4/4 house." - Juno Download

Siloet - The Hill (FREE DOWNLOAD)

Samuel J Welch and Liam Gallagher are the North London based duo known as Siloet.   We've managed to get a free download from them as a way to introduce the rising artists to our fans and listeners. Their track 'The Hill' is a 127 bpm house number that bumps along with a marching beat, quirky vocal and electro stabs, 8-bit crushed efx and synths that make you feel like you're on a roller coaster. We liked it and thought you might too, so enjoy the ride!

BIO:Siloet are a North London based duo by the names of Liam Gallagher (unfortunately) and Samuel J Welch. The boys made the wise decision a few years ago to leave the sunny hills of Devon and head for London town, on a mission to craft what they call ‘Commercial Indie Bass’ music. Their style blends together their own vocals and guitars with a little bass on a commercial vibe, however, with a love for bass and house music the lads cannot resist to produce some naughty underground sounds on the side, with some of the freshest labels in the world.Their remix forte is reworking old classics and bringing them bang up to date with everything we expect in this housey and filthy era. A big forthcoming release from Siloet is a prime example of this, a revamped version of Robin S - ‘Show Me Love’ on Champion Records. It’s never certain what will come next from Siloet but commercial or not you can be sure you’re going to want to hear it.

Tanka - 'Make Me' + 'Salwa' HNH027

Tanka is the moniker of 20-year-old DJ & Producer Francis Leigh, creating a stir online & beyond, he's a man of many mix downs, with much to say and plenty of tumblr posts.

No stranger to Hot N Heavy, Tanka has released 'Amelie' on HNH016 and 'LesGo' on HNH017 Destinations Vol. 1. Both of which have set the bar high with their level of production, but Make Me and Salwa take it up even further over the top and demonstrate why Tanka is a force to be reckoned with.

Coming live and direct from Winchester, UK and rising with the new generation of young producers, Tanka has forged a name for himself as one of the most exciting artists to emerge out of the ever-expanding bass scene. Since his debut onto the radar of the electronic circuit, he's found a matured groove in a 4x4 beat. Coming-of-age in a 'bass driven' era, Francis has set his sights on a more classic Detroit influenced House & Tech sound.  And it's with his signature dark techno sound of UK bass, that Tanka has generated a swell of support from big names such as Dark Sky, Drum's of Death, Mak & Pasteman, HxdB and Redlight to name just a few.

Below we've included a few FREE Downloads in support of this release, so please enjoy and support the artist.

Lunova Labs - Burden / Holding On HNHEP026

We are proud to present the debut release for Kevin Mac Erwin aka Lunova Labs. Origianlly from the Bay Area and now currently residing in Nashville Tennessee USA, Kevin has given us two fresh slices of Future Garage and Bass bliss. Thoughtful and emotional sounds resonate throughout each one of his tracks creating wonderful textures and atmosphere to dance or chill out to.  As well we've also included a handful of FREE DOWNLOADS for you to enjoy and share with your friends.

We are also blessed to include remixes from the likes of Admin (Hot N Heavy, UK) Azedia (London, UK), Commodore 69 (Hot N Heavy, SF) EPLP (Hot N Heavy, UK) Fedbymachines (Warminal, NL) and Kyson (Berlin). With all the remixes being very cohesive yet diverse and each producer putting their own unique stamp on the original, this looks to be an exciting summer release.

We asked Kevin our "6-Pack" of questions to get to know him a bit better and this is what he has to say.

1. Q. Where were you born?

     A. I was born in the East bay area in Walnut Creek, California.

2. Q. When did you first get into electronic dance music?

     A. The first electronic music I really got into was Eiffel 65 when I was pretty young. I really hadn't been exposed to what we know now as modern dance music till high school when I started listening to house and trance. I was turned on to Aphex Twin my freshmen year and that really set everything in motion introducing me to the more avant garde side of electronic music.

3. Q. What other types of music influence your production style?

    A. There are countless forms of music that inspire me in my productions. I listen to a lot of jazz and classical music, but I cannot say that I draw directly from them as influences. I love ambient music and film scores. The music of my peers is also a big influence. I have friends who play all sorts of instruments and sing who are always rubbing off on me.

4. Q. What is your favorite tree?

    A. My favorite tree would have to be eucalyptus. Growing up in the Bay Area I have nostalgia for the smell of eucalyptus leaves. Walnut trees are cool too!

5. Q. If you were stranded somewhere and could have just one musical instrument with you what would it be and why?

    A. If I was stranded and could only have one instrument I would have to have a grand piano. I have played piano since I was a little kid. Most of my tracks begin as melodies on the piano before they hit the computer world. I can be lost sitting at a piano.

6. Q. Any shout outs?

    A. Shout outs to Module Module, Eplp, Kyson, fedbymachines, Azedia, Atsubox, Essay, Sina & Stumbline. :)

Juno Download has done a really nice review of this release:

"Lunova Labs is an electronic producer hailing from the unusual base of Nashville, Kentucky. Describing his sound as future garage and inspired equally by Debussy, Aphex Twin and Philip Glass, he finally releases this two-track follow up to recent EP Pneuma. "Burden" is a simple affair with a tropical xylophone motif gently lilting over sparse beats. Three further mixes of the track feature here: Kyson Market Stall take the song in a trippy slow motion soul direction, while Commodore 69 and Azedia both concentrate on toughening up the tropical beats and bass. Second track "Holding On" again has a minimal arrangement, but is augmented by soaring soundscapes and a fragile piano melody. Fedbymachines deliver a killer Burial-style doom mix, Admin delivers a laid-back house interpretation, but it's EPLP's standout garage-tinged mix that will fill the dancefloors." - Juno Download

We're back just in time to kick off the summer with Mak & Pasteman's Playboy VIP + Remixes. After hearing Kissy Sell Out drop his own club edit version of Playboy on his BBC Radio 1 show, Mak & Pasteman liked what he had done and decided to give it the VIP treatment. Mak & Pasteman have been making quite a name for themselves over the past 6 months releasing hits on labels such as Hot N Heavy, Sounds of Sumo, Shifting Peaks and Senseless and with no end in sight we expect the duo to go quite far.  Also look out for their forthcoming release on Seattle's Car Crash Set in July.

For this one we've rounded up some choice remixes from heavyweights Udachi (T&B, Party Like Us, NY), Clicks & Whistles (Party Like Us, NC), Sublo (Shift, Hot N Heavy, Brap Dem, SF), Pále (Fat!, Hot N Heavy, UK), Mike G (Car Crash Set, Hot N Heavy, LA), Tony Goods (Sounds of Sumo, Car Crash Set, Hot N Heavy, Sea) and Corporal F (Hot N Heavy, Immersed Audio, UK). Already garnering support from the likes of Christian Martin, Kush Arora, HxdB, CDBL, Sines and Krueger these remixes are tearing up dance floors world wide! Don't forget to grab the FREE DOWNLOAD of Corporal F's UK House remix of Jungle Juice.

Gullfisk - 'Move Me' HNHEP023

Presenting our 23rd release featuring Gregory Wuytack aka Gullfisk. This 21 year old producer from Belgium has been garnering heavy support from the likes of Dauwd, Eliphino, Whistla, Submerse and EPLP lately. So needless to say We are proud to release his debut EP 'Move Me'. Also featured on this release are three solid remixes. First up the ever so thoughtful sounds of EPLP drift into your speakers with his remix of 'Green Waters' then HNH Label head Commodore 69 puts up a junglistic rework of title track 'Move Me' while up and coming producer D3adl1ne delivers a killer remix with a UK House twist.
